Things here have been a whirlwind of activity. Yesterday we wheeled old people around the city, we had a simple route and were all together (40 old people in all) so it was actually fun. Then we went out with our teams and met people and engaged in conversation. B, L and I met some very nice bartenders at an Irish pup (who happened to be Irish). We are going to go back there and continue the relationship.
This morning one of the pastors, Todd, took us to a middle-eastern section of the city in order to pray and to be exposed to the contrast in the culture. There are some very significant East/West tensions even in a tolerant place like Europe. Crazy. Then we at lunch at the YWAM bar/grill which was very good. All the workers seem to know Anne Sue quite well. Ãnd since she was just here last week, it was a fresh memory for them. We then went to The Cleft (not The Cleft Butcheek, which I always think in my head) which is an outreach in the red-light district of Amsterdam. We joined with other workers and many Danish Deacons (new band name?)who happened to be in town and we prayed for the district and engaged people into conversation. I met Fritz who is a 48 year old street cleaner who was born in Indonesia, but has lived in Amsterdam since he was three. He was very interested in knowing about our spiritual decision to be there, but only wanted the conversation to go so deep, we obliged.
Now Kelly and I are babysitting (well, she’s baby sitting for one of the Zolder families. I came because the house is far away and it’s not wise to travel alone at night in an unfamiliar place). I just took an excellent nap and will continue reading Mark Driscoll’s new book after I am finished typing. Then we will go back on the tram and meet the others to watch this weeks uploaded episode of 24. All in all we are doing well, learning much, drinking good drinks, praying desperate prayers and missing you back in the states all at the same time.

We are leaving tomorrow. We’ve already had a bit of excitement. Brett lost his passport and realized last night. JR and I helped him tear apart his apartment and his car to no avail. So today he headed to Chicago, the nearest passport-making office, and got a new one. So he’s going with us.
I will be posting more here this week and also on the amsterdam blog.

Ok, so we just bought a mattress. A nice one. For really cheap. It’s a Serta king size pillow/euro top with box springs. We got it for $400. Amazing. Hopefully, I will be more awake in the daytime and more asleep in the nighttime from now on.

Thank you to everyone who has supported out team to go to Amsterdam. We are leaving this Saturday. It’s kind of crept up on me to be honest. It feels like we’ve been doing so many “different” kinds of services at Riverview lately that alot of my thinking and time has been caught up in that. But I’m very excited to serve our sister church there. Hopefully, by the time we leave, you will be able to check up on us at www.eriv.net/amsterdam.
