Be careful what you search for on the internet. You may not want to find. I googled an old friend who I went to college with and hadn’t spoken to in a few years. I was shocked to see police blotters written about him involved in a sting in which he was arrested for enticing a child sexually. It’s just so weird to read that. I mean, we were good friends and it’s just weird that he was taken down this road. It just shows you how vulnerable we are to our flesh. I’m sure it didn’t start of like this, it probably started off with “mild” porn (if there is such a thing) and he became so involved and consumed by his sexual addiction that he allowed himself to keep going down that road. Very sad.
I’ve been thinking about this some lately. I think sometimes there are monsters that we feed whether it’s porn, control issues, our bellies, tv addiction, etc… I think the only way to really get past this stuff is to kill the monster, or allow God to kill the monster. If we have a control issue with something, we need to starve the monster. We need to get out of the situation. We need to expose the monster to trusted friends that know us and love us.
There are many great men with potential that have been destroyed by this kind of thing. Starve the monster.

Ok, finally blogging here. I can’t believe I haven’t blogged about the Wilco show. 20 good friends came with me and I’m pretty sure everyone enjoyed it. We had amazing seats 5th and 7th rows near the center. Good stuff. Jeff wasn’t very talkative until late in the set when he started “preaching” the gospel of participation. The band swelled into an out and out revival mode to prey on our emotions. So of course we had to yell on kingpin, it got our demons out.
It was also good to see Dr. Heath and Wes and to meet Ryan too. It was great having Jeff there for the weekend. He’s a great guy to talk to, good taste in music, interesting discussions on politics and religion. We also went to hear D.A. Carson speak in his fake Brittish/Canadian accent. Weird…
Meanwhile, things are plugging away, we are kicking off our building campaign this weekend. I am so excited about what God’s going to do. He’s going to have to show up in a big way if we are going to build an addition. There is no parking or even standing room at our peak services. It’s a good problem to have, and God seemed to be involved in creating the problem, so we are praying that he helps make this happen!
If you think about it, take some time and pray for our church, just that we will be able to do everything possible that more people would be able to come to Jesus.

Tonight we had an amazing kick-off event for the new Merge group. There were over 100 people there all talking, connecting, enjoying coffee and music. I am really excited to see what God does with the group. There was obvious a need there! We will be meeting once a month to start and forming small groups really soon. Email merge@eriv.net if you have any questions!

We have a free couch to give away. It’s in pretty good shape. It could probably use a cleaning, but looks great, and works well. We also have a red swivel chair to give away. Let me know if you are interested. If no one takes them, then we will have to throw them away this week because we are getting the basement finished and don’t have room for them.
