The Staple Singers

The first time I heard the Staple Singers I was enthralled with their rendition of “The Weight” as they were playing with The Band in “The Last Waltz” (a live video recording of The Band’s last ever concert with guests such as Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, and Van Morrison). So much soul, I loved it. It’s taken me a few years though until today when I finally bought the Best Of The Staple Singers. It’s an amazing mix of Soul, Gospel, R&B and Motown. Every song has something punchy in the vocal melodies and the bass lines are bluesy without trite 12 bar funk. Good stuff check it out.
The Staple Singers are great. You might want to check out the Delfonics and The Spinners too.
The Last Waltz is an amazing film. Van looked a little messed up during his performance, but all in all, it was a great film. Did you know that a tribute album to The Band is coming out soon?
If you want some great Van Morrison, I have the Astral Weeks (my favorite album) demos which basically consists of Van solo in the studio and with some friends on a few tracks laying out the bare bones of many of his classic songs….before they were classics. Let me know if you want it and I’ll send it to you
Hope you and the family had a nice Thanksgiving
