So to finish my post from yesterday, I have to tell you that Noel and I ended up in San Diego 2 minutes apart, which is pretty fantastic considering neither of us where too excited about waiting until who knows when for there other to show up at the airport.
Today has been good and long. I got up early, ran a couple miles and then we headed out to the Leadership Network Multi-Site conference. Mark Driscoll taught and was funnier than usual, I’ll have to grab my notes later and give you some of his one-liners. I went to a very informative lecture by a pastor at Seacoast Community on Leadership Development. Noel and I also made some good connectiongs with people there including Todd Rhodes of mondaymorninginsight.com.
Then we went to a Leadership Network church planting community conference where we were guest observers. They network in a quality way. They are efficient and gathering information and making connections, so it’s cool to see churches share resources to help advance the gospel.
I left the conference early and drove down to San Diego to meet with Brian Thomas who owns Semper Reformanda Records which is our record label and had dinner and a great Stone Smoked Porter. What Brian is doing is very cool, bringing together worship leaders and music to resource churches.
So busy day, time to veg out on tv.

Your Result: The Midland
Â
“You have a Midland accent” is just another way of saying “you don’t have an accent.” You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio. |

Sunday night we had another Merge event where we listened to some fantastic music by Brandon and Laura, I taught and then we took communion and prayed. I’m so excited about the future of this group. We have some really good ideas to reach out to the community and to reach in with small groups. Here are some pictures of Sunday:

From Miles Stanford’s Green Letters
“Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: He that soweth the good seed is the Son of Man; the field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom” (Matthew 13:24,37-38a). The Lord of the harvest plants, buries, Christians as seeds in a field, which is the world.
Through the Husbandman’s patient and loving cultivation the grain of wheat high up on the stalk begins to fear being garnered alone, and hungers to bring forth “much fruit.” Here is God’s motivation for discipleship: that filial heart-hunger for fruit bearing. He finally pleads to be made fruitful at any cost, and then it is that he hears the Lord say, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit” (John 12:24). “Whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, and the gospel’s the same shall save it” (Mark 8:35). In loving response to this hunger the Holy Spirit silently and gently begins to loosen the grain from its comfortable bindings and supports in the ear. “When the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come” (Mark 4:29). As a result, sooner or later the grain of wheat finds itself, not high up on the stalk, but dropped to the earth, into the cold and strange darkness. And still worse, the earth smears and injures that nice shiny golden coat. Worst of all, the coat begins to disintegrate and fall to pieces. All that is not Christ, no matter how nice in appearance and profession, is revealed for what it is — just self.

I’m playing this weekend with The Difficulty. It’s going to be something different for sure.

Tonight we had an amazing kick-off event for the new Merge group. There were over 100 people there all talking, connecting, enjoying coffee and music. I am really excited to see what God does with the group. There was obvious a need there! We will be meeting once a month to start and forming small groups really soon. Email merge@eriv.net if you have any questions!
